On January 12 2017, there was an article by Senior Editor Jim Lorincz who wrote for Fastener News talking about how there will be flawless engine fasteners by 3D laser gaging from the company, Brugola OEB Industriale S.p.A. This Italian fastener company is uses high performance and dynamic bolts that are used in engine assembly. The company has been working on engine fasteners for than three generations.
To give an idea of how many fasteners are in an automobile engine, here is what Lorincz says:
"In an automobile engine, seven types of screws out of approximately 70 are considered critical to achieving the engine’s specified design performance, despite high vibration and heat. The seven include bolts for the cylinder head, crankshaft, con rod, flywheel, and main bearing cap, as well as for the camshaft cap, camshaft sprocket and VCT.”
Brugola OEB Industriale S.p.A. has many automotive customers such as Bugatti, BMW, and Aston Martin. By using a 3D laser gaging and axial vision inspection, the company is able to ensure that these fasteners will provide the engines to perform at its top levels.
Here is what Antonino Occhionero, the plant manager at Brugola’s Plymouth, MI plant has to say about the company and president.
“Once our president saw 3D laser gaging, he knew it would be a critical part of our quality control process to achieve zero defects. Our philosophy has always been to assure that all fastener dimensions are 100% accurate. He recognized laser gaging as a superior method to ensure such quality.”
