Gap and Overlap Type Wave Springs are used in a wide range of applications for their reliability and precision. Smalley has released two sets of Wave Springs that, when used together, create expansion within a cavity. Unlike die-stamped wave washers that often cause binding or hang-up, these two wave springs are engineered for greater efficiency.
The first is the Gap Type Wave Spring, which creates a gap between its ends. The other spring is an Overlap Type Wave Spring, providing a cycling action. As one of the springs is deflected, the outer diameter of the Gap Type Wave Spring increases, while the inner diameter contracts towards the bore.
The springs come in three different sizes: the SSR Series, SSR-N Series, and SSB Series. Each is available in carbon and stainless steel, with diameters ranging from ½" to 16", 3.250" to 7.750", and 16mm to 600mm respectively. These sizes enable the springs to accommodate a wide range of applications, whether in space-constrained environments or for those requiring minimal bearing noise.
