On February 8, 2017, Mick Elliott wrote an article for Electronic Specifier talking about the new MUSBR series USB-C connector from Amphenol. This USB-C connector works across many different platforms such as smartphones, laptops, PCs, and tablets. Additionally, the USB-C connector is compatible with power packs, chargers, and industrial machinery.
Some of these USB-C connectors can handle up to 100W of power. These connectors usually withstand very high temperatures, as the housing is thermoplastic and the plates are made of nickel and stainless steel for added protection.
What makes the USB-C more convenient than regular USB cords is that the plug is reversible, meaning it will connect regardless of whether it's inserted upside down or right side up. The nickel plating uses a 2.57 mm diameter hole for mounting and comes in different colors such as gray and black. These USB-C devices from Amphenol will be available in the EMEA and Asia Pacific regions. Amphenol is a major producer of electronic and fiber optics.
